Who am I?
First, let’s get this out of the way: I don’t think I’m particularly fast. Certainly not as fast as I’d like to be, and certainly not as fast as I once was. Apparently, I’m simply faster than the “other” Brad—an observation courtesy of Bill Strickland who used the name in his blog.
If you haven’t figured it out, I’m a cyclist. Now: I’m a forty four year old masters rider, racing cyclocross, road and track. Back then: I raced the NORBA national circuit with some success. Any way you slice it, I probably take cycling a bit too seriously. But I love everything about the bicycle, man’s most efficient machine. I regard the futile, unwavering, senseless, self inflicted suffering upon that machine in the pursuit of victory (be it personal or otherwise) with honor.
I wouldn’t say I’m a “wanna be,” I feel more like a “sorta was, maybe coulda been” trying to make up for some lost time. Currently, I’m concentrating on preparations for track season. My favorite time of the year though, is cyclo-cross season, where I race Masters and Elite.
The challenge keeps me going, racing and training with people half my age, olympians, national and world champions. That’s not to say I’m competitive with them, but I’m fortunate to live in a community deep with talent, it keeps me sharp and provides endless education. I’ve learned more about sprinting in the past two years, than I learned in my whole life—thanks to riding with a guy nick-named “The Animal” a few times a week.
I’ll do my best to document what’s going on with me and the bicycle. Watch for video, race reports, bike and product reviews and anything else that happens to come up.
